Cheese market in Edam. Every Wednesday morning from July 1 to August 19
The Edam Cheese Market takes place every Wednesday morning and is one of the most atmospheric traditions in North Holland. In the historic center of this picturesque town, Edam’s rich cheese-making history comes back to life. In the square, you can see how cheese carriers, traders, and farmers used to trade with each other—complete with traditional clothing, hand clapping bargaining, and of course the famous round Edam cheeses.
As the market unfolds among the characteristic canals and historic buildings, you can experience the warm and nostalgic atmosphere of the past. Visitors can enjoy demonstrations, local delicacies, and the unique charm of this centuries-old Dutch tradition. A visit to the Cheese Market is therefore a perfect combination of culture, history, and typical Dutch gezelligheid.
